DIY Dream Cables! We know that sometimes you just want to be able to tinker and create on your own, so let us help you get started 🙂
Choose if you would like a kit to make a non-detachable (single piece) or detachable (two part) USB cable, and we'll walk you through the rest!
Our Non-detachable DIY kit comes with two USB connectors, 3 pieces of heat shrink, your chosen length of wire, and paracord, with the option of adding a secondary Techflex sleeving layer.
Our Detachable DIY kit comes with your preferred detachable connector, two USB connectors, 5 pieces of heat shrink, your chosen length of wire, and paracord, with the option of adding a secondary Techflex sleeving layer.
You may also choose to add solder to your DIY kit to complete the assembly of your cable. All of our USB connectors and detachable connectors require soldering to the USB wire included in your kit.
**NOTE: If planning to add a coil to your DIY cable, we recommend planning about 1 foot of wire length per inch of coil. (This does vary depending on the diameter of the rod used for the coil.)
Non-detachable: the standard USB cable layout using a single piece of wire connecting two USB connectors
Detachable: a USB cable layout allowing for a connection point in the middle, splitting your standard cable into two separate pieces
- GX16: most common detachable connector in custom USB cables – 5 pin with a threaded connection system to hold pieces together
- YC8: smallest and thinnest connector – 5 pin with a push-pull connection system
- Weipu: largest but lightest connector – 5 pin with a push-pull connection system
Host Connector: the USB connector that plugs into your PC, laptop, or other power source
Device Connector: the USB connector that plugs into your keyboard or another device
Paracord: the base sleeving layer
Techflex: the secondary sleeving layer covering the Paracord sleeving layer
